Creating art, to me, is a very spiritual process regardless of the subject matter. I feel like each piece that comes through me is a spiritual gift. When I create religious art, the inspiration and joy of creation is also part of the symbolism of my art.
Raised Catholic, I find that I particularly enjoy making religious artwork, especially crosses. The crucifix below is quite large - about 42" tall and very heavy at about 100lbs. I designed it to either mount on the wall, or to stand on a altar or table.
Creating the work is a meditation that often results in prose that I write about each piece. Shop Sculpture to see other pieces I’ve made.
Medium: Handbuilt with traditional blacksmith techniques from reclaimed steel, copper, antique oak inlay and molten glass.
Death Has No Vision
Sculpture and prose ©Tolley Marney
Death has no vision.
Hundreds of thousands have died on the cross, but one
was chosen to be their voice, for all time to come.
Death didn't care if one or one hundred thousand died.
Life has no meaning without consciousness.
Now is the time for all to look at ourselves, our faults,
to walk through our fears.
Live our lives to the best outcome.
The power of belief is within.
Remember, death has no vision.
What is the one truth?
